Cut apart 4 patches
Cut ¾” on both sides of the center line
both vertically and horizontally.
If you are doing the larger size blocks for a lap quilt, change your center cut measurements to:
5” starting blocks, cut 1” from center
6” starting blocks, cut 1 ¼” from center
Re-arrange the pieces. The pic on the left is the original arrangement after cutting. The pic on the right is the new arrangement. All the pieces other than the center will need to be moved. If you are doing a scrap quilt, this would be a good time to shuffle the pieces to spread the colors around.
Sew the pieces back together into a 9 patch block.
